Stock Up, Stock Down for Illinois Diamondbacks' Top Ten Prospects for Week 2

In January, Baseball AmericaAranked the Arizona Diamondbacks' top 10 prospects, delivering "best tool" predictions such as best hitter for average, best athlete, an such like. As the period turns the page to mid-April, each prime possibility has either risen or fallen based on early season's results. This is how they try to find Week 2, the number in parenthesis representing the player's preseason rank: 1. (2) Archie Bradley (RHP) In Class-A Visalia over his two 2013 starts, Archie Bradley has maintained a 0.00 ERA while holding the opposition to a batting average in 11.2 innings of work. While he has allowed only three walks, his strikeout total is 19. Bradley is developing into a good young ballplayer, confirming he perfectly can find his way to the major league club at some point throughout the next several seasons. 2. (1) Tyler Skaggs (LHP) In two begins with Triple-A Reno, Tyler Skaggs surrendered nine earned runs in only 8.1 Ip Address, allowing his opponents a.533 batting average. The good news, if indeed this can be a silver lining, is that Skaggs' first time against Colorado Springs was almost flawlessa'a four-hit shutout efficiency over six innings of work. On another hand, Skaggs did allow all eight acquired runs all through look No. 2, an absolutely problem game versus Sacramento when the River Cats batted to a.533 average to tag Skaggs with the loss. The sample size is small, and there is still much hope to be had, however the 2.1 innings of nine-run balla'an ERA of 34.71a'does may play a role. Even though just a months-old D-Back, shortstop Didi Gregorius has been absolutely amazing for the operation, striking a OPS with the bases empty in 2013.Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images 3. (5 )ADidi GregoriusA( SS) If the Diamondbacks bought Didi Gregorius from the Cincinnati Reds during the three-team change over the offseason, it was major news, and permanently reason. Gregorius has positively raked in his last few games, hitting 8-for-14 (.571) throughout Reno's week-end series against Sacramento. With a OPS of 1.195, Gregorius contains a prominent place in the PCL, his effectiveness since Triple-A Opening Daya'11-for-26 (.423), two home runs, 2 RBI and 19 whole basesa'causing much clamor for his status to soon increase from today's "rehab assignment." One word of warning to management: Gregorius is batting just.100 with runners on, but.625a'OPS of 1.792a'with the bases empty. Lead...off... 4. (4) Matt Davidson (3B) Over nine games to date, Matt Davidson is 10-for-30 (.333 batting average) with six RBI, two home runs and 16 total bases. He has also walked seven times to his eight strikeouts, creating a sizzling OPS of.993. Currently, Davidson is among the best balanced place prospects in the Diamondbacks firm. 5. (7) Chris Owings (Wairuna) After having a 4-for-4 effectiveness against Sacramento on Sunday, Chris OwingsAraisedAhis PCL batting average to.404 and OPS to.994, obtaining 21 hits and 29 total bases in 52 at-bats. Owings' Triple-A debut has been completely remarkable, and he's made Reno his own, clubbing two doubles and a triple with a batting average and 1.733 OPS while at home. Add to that another two doubles and his Triple-A counterparts have been clearly impressed by a triple while on the road and Owings. A.J. Pollock has brought advantage of his possibilities and Eaton's unfortunate circumstance to begin his climb up the D-Backs' prospects list.Norm Hall/Getty Images 6. (3) Adam Eaton (OF) How can you fault an outfielder who's wounded? Adam Eaton drops to sixth simply by virtue of principal of the "now," although Gregorius, Davidson and Owings have obviously satisfied. 7. (10) A.J. Pollock (CF) Talking about Eaton, fellow probability outfielder A.J. Pollock has taken over Eaton's place during Adam's injury, performing reasonably well in the process. Through 10 activities and 32 at-bats with the MLB Diamondbacks in 2013, his way have been slugged by Pollock to an.875 OPS, providing four doubles and two homers on the effectiveness of nine visits. Yes, he broke out from the cellar-dwelling Pittsburgh Pirates, but even the black and yellow can be an MLB ballclub. Pollock is holding down the fort just fine. 8. (6) David Holmberg (LHP) With a ERAa'two ER through 10.0 IPa'David Holmberg has gotten off to a hot start, although he has wandered six while striking out nine and allowed an opposing batting average of.270. None the less, Holmberg is really a mainstay in Double-A Mobile, though the BayBears crime has treated him like Clayton Kershaw, giving no run service. To date into 2013, Holmberg has suffered two no-decisions. 9. (9) Andrew Chafin (LHP) Phil Chafin has received a rough start to 2013 with Visalia. Coming off of a, 4.93 ERA performance with the Rawhide in 2012, Chafin has set up a record with a ERA, giving up seven walks to 19 strikeouts in 14.2 innings of work. 10. (10) Stryker Trahan (D) Stryker TrahanAhas not played a game since 2012's Arizona Rookie League stint, mainly because that particular league along with Single-A short hasn't started its 2013 year yet. However, expectations are high for the young catcher who, behind MLB All-Star Miguel Montero, is in no rush to access the show.
