Dougie Freedman wins Manager in the Month award, beats out and about Charlton's Powell and Brighton's Poyet.

April was an awfully busy month for Bolton Wanderers and Dougie Freedman. The Trotters played six matches within the space of 25 times, winning four, drawing an individual, and losing one as they pushed for a play-off spot in a very battle that went for the final day of the summer season. Due to those outcomes, Dougie Freedman beat out there Charlton manager Chris Powell in addition to Brighton & Hove Albion manager Gus Poyet with the npower Championship Manager for the Month Award.

The award is determined by a small committee comprised of Alan Curbishley, Andy Williamson (Football Category COO), Olaf Dixon (League Managers Association deputy CEO), and Katy Thomas (npower Union and Sponsorship manager).

"It was an ideal month for Dougie Freedman which triggered an end-of-season surge to get his side, who only just missed out on a Play-Off place.

"I believe Bolton will be within contention again next season in what's going to be his first full season in charge. "

"While they are willing to have been disappointed to enjoy missed out on promotion this coming year, I'm sure Bolton Wanderers fanatics will now be looking towards next season with lots of enthusiasm. "

Over the course of April, Dougie Freedman's Bolton Wanderers overcom out Huddersfield Town (1-0), Wolverhampton Wanderers (2-0), Bristol Town (1-2), and Middlesbrough (2-1). They drew 1-1 away to help champions Cardiff City and lost away to Leicester Town.

In the same period, Brighton & Hove Albion, guided by Gus Poyet, travelled undefeated, winning three and drawing three matches. Charlton, managed by Chris Powell, also went undefeated and in addition won three and came three, including a 6-0 romp away at Barnsley.
