Tony Allen If the Mavericks want to improve on the 27th-ranked defensive device next time, Tony Allen undoubtedly wouldn't be described as a bad spot to start. There a few better border defenders in the NBA than Allen, and he's the sort of person who will instantly turnaround a team's defensive tradition. He's also a capable bad player and will be a good fit in the Mavericks' locker room. J.R. Smith Yes, he's a volatile character. Yes, he takes too many ill-advised shots. The reigning NBA Sixth Man of the Year would not need to come off the seat for the Mavericks, and he could hopefully provide more consistent rating than Dallas' O.J. This past year Mayo did. Plus, you can find few instructors in the category who could handle Smith's personality much better than Rick Carlisle, and when Smith's chance is slipping, his on-court antics become less of a challenge. Nick Young Nick Young is sort of a poor man's J.R. Johnson. As such, he would perhaps not be a terrible choice to bring to the Mavs. Young's one-year stint with the Philadelphia 76ers did not really pan out, therefore maybe he could get a new begin in Dallas next year. Small showed in his two months prior to joining the Sixers he is capable of setting up big rating numbers, therefore perhaps shifting the scenery to Dallas could bring back a number of Young's intense offense.
